We are a local family owned Portland based company. Although we are relatively new to this market we have been making great waves with our customer service, high tech systems, integrity and professionalism.

We have already cultivated strong relationships to the best shingle makers in the business, suppliers that go above and beyond, and have multiple experienced crews. We only use experts for every step of our process.

The Team

Adam Cornett
Owner

Founder of Hawthorne General Construction, Adam Cornett is a man of many talents. He is a professional tango dancer, roofer, contractor, and serial entrepreneur. Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, he has a deep love for his community and city.

He started his first business at the age of 18, and has never looked back. His businesses have taken him all over the country, but he always finds his way back home to Portland. He loves nothing more than spending time with family and friends, exploring his city’s endless food options, and dancing the night away at one of Portland’s tango clubs.

Nicholas Tapia
Owner

Nicholas Owen Tapia is co-owner of Hawthorne General Construction. Nicholas likes to spend his free time with family and friends, enjoying the outdoors, his two cats, and doing custom woodworking projects.

He’s an experienced technologist and small business-owner and he takes great pride in his work on advanced internal systems. Nicholas worked in tech for many years, most notably at JPMC, before making the switch to construction. When he’s not working or spending time with loved ones, Nicholas can be found dancing Tango or Lindy Hop to classic big band orchestras like Glen Miller and Count Basie.

Fun fact: we are both national Argentine Tango champions!

The goal for us as owners of this company is to be able to sleep at night.

Our need for good sleep dictates what products we use. That’s why we recommend Malarkey, because they make quality products and are known to honor their warrantee. We don’t cut corners on materials. Its why strongly prefer using CDX over OSB on roof decks and cap nails over staples when installing underlayment.

We shop around with distributors to get the absolute best price on those materials.

We have transparent pricing. Our pricing model for a roof is (Labor + Materials) * 1.3 = roof cost. That 30% covers operating expenses, owner pay, and business development. See a real roof pricing example! Any lower and go out of business. Any higher and we’re gouging. We’ve found 30% is the right number.

We use tools like Roofr, Zapier, and CompanyCam to leverage automation, AI, and technology to keep personal costs as low as possible, passing those savings onto you.

These guys did an awesome job, Not only was the work top notch they were tearing off and roofing the non fire damaged side of the house while my framers were setting trusses and sheeting the burned side of the house.
